Tariffs–Solar pricing about to jump

We’re seeing more tariffs on solar panels for foreign companies get instituted in March of 2025. What does this mean? Well, for one, solar panel pricing is going up.

We’re seeing crazy low solar panel pricing currently, so we’ve hit the bottom. Rising panel pricing is something to expect, and with commercial solar, don’t get caught with your pants down; going under contract and engineering and permitting take ~6 months. When you buy the solar panels, they will be more expensive. Forecast this in your projects.

When we had tariffs hit solar panels a few years ago, the solar panel pricing was drastically higher. Having a rock-bottom solar panel pricing today is much less of an effect than it was 3-4 years ago. A 50% tariff on solar panels being imported at $.20/watt is still lower than a 30% tariff on solar panels that used to cost $.50/watt. We are in the solar business, and everything is always moving around, especially pricing.

Brace for impact on your solar projects and make sure you don’t fumble the football 6 months or a year down the road. Pricing is going to be higher, and prevailing wages are something that we’re already accustomed to. Solar projects will cost more money; now let’s work on the red tape that the city throws at us to get a damn permit!
