In August 2026, the federal government announced new trade measures under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act targeting imports of polysilicon and products made from it, including solar cells and modules. Beginning December 4, 2026, covered imports will be subject to new minimum import prices, while many downstream polysilicon products will also face an additional 15% tariff. For businesses considering commercial solar, this does not mean that every solar project will suddenly cost 15% more. But it does mean equipment sourcing, manufacturing location and procurement timing are becoming increasingly important factors when evaluating a project. Here is what commercial property owners should know. ## What Is Section 232? Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 gives the federal government authority to investigate whether certain imports threaten to impair U.S. national security and, when necessary, take action to adjust those imports. Historically, Section 232 has been associated with products such as steel and aluminum. More recently, the federal government has expanded its use to industries and supply chains considered strategically important to the United States. In 2026, that expanded to polysilicon. Polysilicon is a highly purified form of silicon that serves as a foundational material for both semiconductors and solar photovoltaic products. Solar-grade polysilicon is processed into ingots and wafers, which are then used to manufacture solar cells and ultimately solar modules. Following a Department of Commerce investigation, the federal government determined that U.S. dependence on imported polysilicon and its derivative products posed a national security concern. According to the August 2026 presidential proclamation, the United States accounted for less than 2% of global polysilicon production capacity in 2024 and was “virtually entirely dependent” on imports of solar ingots, wafers and cells. The new Section 232 measures are intended to encourage more of that supply chain to move to the United States. ## Laymans Summary of How Section 232 Impacts Commercial Solar Systems This tariff was put in place for US manufacturing to compete in the solar panel manufacturing space. We all see solar panel manufacturing facilities popping up all over the Country, and this tariff is supposed to be a price floor on imports, so that US manufacturing doesn’t get undercut by outside Countries. Our expert opinion is that this will not have a dramatic affect on pricing. Most solar panel manufacturers that we work with (Top 20 global brands) have already invested in US manufacturing facilities. This tariff will speed up the adoption of domestic sourcing materials in the US. One manufacturer already said it will have less than a 10% impact on solar panel pricing due to the fact that they were already sourcing domestic components already, so those domestic components price will not be affected by Section 232 tariffs. If in fact there is a 10% price increase on solar panels, this is a smaller percent increase on the overall project cost. WattHub sees a bright future for solar panel installation as foreign and domestic solar panel manufacturers are already shifting their componentry to US made products. Considering the tax credit expiration at the end of 2027, if you are thinking about a commercial solar system for your building or business, don’t waste anymore time. Get it in motion quickly to avoid the tariff that is being enacted on December 4th 2026. There will still be an existing inventory of solar panels pre-tariff after December 4th, but supply is selling quickly. See a deeper explanation below on the tariff itself: ## What Are the New Section 232 Tariffs on Solar Products? The new policy has two major components that affect the solar industry. First, the federal government established minimum import prices for several products within the solar manufacturing supply chain. The initial minimum prices are: • Polysilicon: $21 per kilogram • Polysilicon ingots and wafers: $100 per kilogram • Solar cells: $0.22 per watt • Solar modules: $0.38 per watt These minimum prices are designed to prevent covered imported products from entering the U.S. market below specified price levels. If covered merchandise enters the country below the applicable minimum import price, additional duties may be assessed to account for the difference. Second, many covered polysilicon derivative products will also be subject to an additional 15% Section 232 tariff. Both measures are scheduled to take effect on December 4, 2026. There are important exceptions and different treatments for certain U.S. trading partners, so the actual tariff applicable to a particular product can depend on its country of origin and other factors. ## Why Is the U.S. Targeting Polysilicon and Solar Manufacturing? The reasoning behind the tariffs goes beyond solar pricing. Polysilicon is a foundational material for two industries the federal government considers strategically important: semiconductors and solar energy. According to the federal government’s Section 232 findings, the U.S. share of global polysilicon production capacity fell from approximately 50% in 2005 to less than 2% in 2024. At the same time, global polysilicon production has grown substantially. The federal government reported that worldwide production increased by more than 270% since 2020, contributing to significant global oversupply. The concern is that low-cost foreign production makes it difficult for U.S. manufacturers to compete economically, leaving the country increasingly dependent on overseas supply chains. The new tariffs and minimum pricing requirements are designed to create stronger economic conditions for domestic production of polysilicon, ingots, wafers, cells and other related products. The policy also creates an incentive program for companies that commit to investing in new or expanded U.S. manufacturing facilities. ## Does This Mean Solar Panels Will Cost 15% More? Not necessarily. A 15% tariff on certain imported products does not translate directly into a 15% increase in the total price of a commercial solar project. A commercial solar installation includes much more than solar modules. Total project costs can include inverters, racking, electrical equipment, engineering, permitting, labor, interconnection, development and other project-specific expenses. The impact will also depend on which equipment is selected and where it is manufactured. Certain countries and products receive different treatment under the proclamation. Products from qualifying trade partners may also receive exemptions under specific circumstances, particularly when the polysilicon contained in those products originates from a qualifying trade partner. The result is that tariff exposure will need to be evaluated at the equipment and project level rather than through a simple percentage applied to the entire solar installation. ## What Could the Tariffs Mean for Commercial Solar Projects? The most immediate effect for commercial solar buyers is likely to be greater emphasis on procurement and equipment sourcing. #### Equipment Origin Becomes More Important Two solar modules with similar technical specifications may have different tariff exposure depending on where the product and its underlying components were manufactured. Developers will increasingly need to understand not only the brand of equipment being proposed, but also the underlying supply chain. #### Procurement Timing Could Matter The new Section 232 measures are scheduled to apply to covered goods entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, beginning December 4, 2026. That makes procurement schedules particularly relevant for projects currently under development. Businesses evaluating projects should discuss with their solar provider when equipment will be purchased, when it is expected to enter the United States and whether pricing assumptions account for the new trade measures. #### Domestic Manufacturing May Become More Competitive One of the explicit objectives of the policy is to encourage investment in U.S. polysilicon and solar manufacturing. The proclamation authorizes an onshoring program that can provide tariff benefits to companies investing in new or expanded U.S. production of polysilicon, ingots, wafers and cells. Over time, that could increase the availability of domestically produced components and further change how commercial solar projects source equipment. #### Project Economics Should Be Evaluated Using Current Pricing Businesses should be cautious about assuming that historical solar equipment pricing will continue unchanged. At the same time, tariff headlines alone do not determine whether a solar investment makes financial sense. The more useful question is what a specific project costs today, how much electricity it is expected to produce and what financial return those savings create over the life of the system. #### What Should Businesses Ask Their Solar Provider? Businesses considering commercial solar should understand how current trade policy has been incorporated into their project’s pricing and equipment strategy. Questions worth asking include: • Which solar modules are being proposed for the project? • Where are those modules, cells and major components manufactured? • Are any of the proposed products subject to the new Section 232 tariffs or minimum import prices? • Does the current project pricing already account for those costs? • When will the equipment be procured and imported? • Are domestically manufactured or tariff-advantaged alternatives available? • Could changing equipment affect the project’s cost, production or expected return? These questions can help businesses understand whether a proposal is based on realistic current-market assumptions. #### Section 232 Is Part of a Larger Shift in the U.S. Solar Market The new tariffs are one piece of a much larger change taking place across the U.S. solar industry. Federal policy is increasingly focused on where solar equipment comes from, how it is manufactured and how dependent the United States should be on foreign supply chains. Trade policy, domestic manufacturing incentives, cybersecurity requirements and changes to federal tax incentives are all affecting how solar projects are developed and financed. For commercial property owners, that makes choosing equipment and timing procurement more complex. But it does not change the fundamental calculation behind a commercial solar investment. The decision still comes down to what the system costs, how much electricity it produces, how much utility expense it can offset and what financial value the project creates over its useful life. ## What WattHub Is Watching Section 232 policy can continue to evolve as the Department of Commerce implements the new rules and monitors imports. WattHub is continuing to monitor: • Implementation of the December 4, 2026 tariffs and minimum import prices • Changes to covered solar products • Solar module and equipment pricing • Growth in U.S. solar manufacturing • Equipment availability and procurement timelines • Additional federal trade actions affecting commercial solar • Changes to federal solar tax policy For businesses considering solar, the goal should not be to predict every future trade policy change. It should be to build project economics around current information, understand the equipment being proposed and evaluate whether the investment makes financial sense under realistic assumptions. ## Sources & Further Reading The White House, “Adjusting Imports of Polysilicon and its Derivatives into the United States,” Presidential Proclamation, August 6, 2026. On July 28, the FCC added certain foreign-produced power inverters to its Covered List, which identifies communications equipment and services determined to pose an unacceptable risk to U.S. national security or the security and safety of U.S. persons. The FCC subsequently revised the designation on August 20, providing a more specific definition of which power inverters are affected. For businesses evaluating commercial solar, the announcement may sound like a sweeping ban on foreign solar equipment. It isn’t. The restrictions apply to a defined category of foreign-produced, utility-interactive power inverters with remote connectivity capabilities. While the rule could affect equipment sourcing and future product availability, it does not change the fundamental viability of commercial solar. Here is what commercial property owners and businesses should understand. ## What Did the FCC Actually Change? The FCC maintains what is known as the Covered List, a list of communications equipment and services that have been determined to pose an unacceptable risk to national security or the security and safety of U.S. persons. Equipment placed on the Covered List generally cannot receive new FCC equipment authorization. For covered equipment requiring FCC authorization, that can prevent new products from being authorized for importation, marketing or sale in the United States. On July 28, 2026, the FCC expanded the Covered List to include certain foreign-produced power inverters and advanced robotic equipment. The original inverter designation raised questions throughout the energy industry because it potentially encompassed a broad range of equipment. On August 20, the FCC revised the designation and provided a more specific definition of the equipment affected. Under the updated determination, a covered power inverter generally must: • Be utility-interactive, meaning it converts DC electricity to AC electricity and is designed to operate in parallel with the electric utility. • Contain, or be designed to accept, technology that enables remote communication, monitoring, sensing, data collection or control through connections such as Ethernet, Wi-Fi, cellular or Bluetooth. • Meet the FCC’s definition of “foreign-produced.” That last point is particularly important when interpreting what the FCC’s action means for commercial solar projects. ## “Foreign-Produced” Doesn’t Simply Mean a Foreign Brand The FCC action is sometimes described as a ban on foreign solar inverters, but that description leaves out important details. The updated definition does not automatically prohibit an inverter simply because its manufacturer is headquartered outside the United States. Under the FCC’s August 20 determination, an inverter is not considered “foreign-produced” for purposes of this Covered List designation if it meets certain domestic manufacturing criteria. These include qualifying for the federal Advanced Manufacturing Production Credit under Section 45X or meeting the applicable federal definition of a domestic end product. This makes where and how equipment is manufactured, as well as its qualification under U.S. domestic-content requirements, important considerations. The FCC also established a process through which manufacturers can seek conditional approval for certain foreign-produced inverters if they meet specified cybersecurity requirements. The key takeaway is that this is not a blanket ban on every imported solar inverter. It is a restriction affecting a specific category of connected, foreign-produced power inverters, with important exemptions and compliance pathways. ## Why Are Solar Inverters a National Security Concern? Modern commercial solar inverters do much more than convert electricity. Solar panels produce direct current, or DC, electricity. An inverter converts that electricity into alternating current, or AC, electricity that can be used by a building or supplied to the electrical grid. Today’s inverters can also be connected devices. Depending on the system, they may communicate with monitoring platforms, utilities, operators or other energy-management systems. Remote connectivity can allow system owners and operators to monitor production, identify faults, collect performance data and manage equipment. That connectivity also creates potential cybersecurity concerns, and recent incidents have demonstrated why federal agencies are paying closer attention. In November 2024, some solar inverters manufactured by Chinese company Deye and sold in the U.S. under other brands, including Sol-Ark, were remotely disabled. Affected systems displayed a message stating that the inverter was not allowed for use in the United States. Deye attributed the shutdown to issues involving distribution agreements rather than a malicious or state-directed action. Regardless of the reason, the incident demonstrated that a manufacturer could remotely disable installed inverters through a connected management platform. Concerns about undocumented communication capabilities have also emerged. In 2025, Reuters reported that U.S. energy officials had discovered unauthorized communication equipment, including cellular radios, in some Chinese-manufactured solar inverters and batteries. According to experts cited by Reuters, undocumented communication components could potentially provide a way to bypass established network protections and remotely interact with equipment. The Chinese government disputed suggestions that its products posed security risks. These examples do not mean that all foreign-manufactured solar equipment presents a cybersecurity threat. They do, however, illustrate why connectivity, transparency and control over remotely accessible energy equipment have become national security considerations. Depending on the system, they may communicate with monitoring platforms, utilities, operators or other energy-management systems. Remote connectivity can allow system owners and operators to monitor production, identify faults, collect performance data and manage equipment. That connectivity also creates potential cybersecurity concerns. Federal officials have increasingly focused on the security implications of connected equipment used within U.S. energy infrastructure. Inverters deployed across the electrical system can interact with the grid while also incorporating technologies that allow remote communication or control. The FCC’s action reflects this concern. Rather than focusing on all solar inverters, the revised designation specifically targets utility-interactive foreign-produced inverters that contain, or are designed to accept, components capable of remote communication, monitoring, sensing, data collection or control. ## What Does This Mean for Commercial Solar Projects? For businesses considering commercial solar, the FCC’s decision does not mean that solar projects suddenly need to stop. It does, however, make equipment selection and supply-chain considerations increasingly important. ### Equipment Selection Will Matter More Commercial solar developers will need to pay closer attention to the specific inverter manufacturer and model being proposed for a project. Where the equipment is manufactured, how it qualifies under domestic manufacturing standards, whether it incorporates remote connectivity and whether it has the necessary FCC equipment authorization can all become relevant considerations. For commercial property owners, this makes it increasingly important to understand what equipment is actually included in a solar proposal rather than evaluating a project solely on system size and price. ### Solar Supply Chains May Continue Shifting Toward U.S. Manufacturing The FCC decision is one of several federal policies creating incentives for more energy equipment and components to be manufactured within the United States. Manufacturers serving the U.S. solar market may increasingly need to consider domestic manufacturing, component sourcing and cybersecurity requirements when developing equipment for future projects. For buyers, these shifts could influence which products are available and how developers source equipment. ### Each Project and Product Needs to Be Evaluated Individually The FCC action should not be interpreted as an automatic problem for every commercial solar project using equipment from an international manufacturer. Whether an inverter is affected depends on the specific equipment, how and where it is manufactured, its connectivity capabilities, its authorization status and whether it qualifies for an exemption or conditional approval. That makes project-specific equipment evaluation especially important. ### The Fundamental Value of Commercial Solar Hasn’t Changed For a property owner or business, the larger financial question remains the same: Does the solar project produce enough electricity and long-term savings to justify the investment? Federal equipment regulations may change which products developers use to construct a system, but they do not change the fundamental reasons businesses consider solar. A properly designed commercial solar system can reduce the amount of electricity a property needs to purchase from the utility, provide greater predictability around long-term energy costs and add a long-term energy-producing asset to a property. ## What Should Businesses Ask Their Solar Provider? Businesses evaluating commercial solar do not need to become experts in FCC equipment authorization. However, they should expect their solar provider to understand how current regulations affect the equipment being proposed. Before approving a system, consider asking: • Which inverter manufacturer and model are you proposing? • Where is the inverter manufactured? • Is this specific equipment affected by the FCC Covered List? • Does the inverter currently have the required FCC equipment authorization? • Could the new restrictions affect equipment availability or project lead times? • Are alternative products available if the originally specified equipment becomes unavailable? A commercial solar provider should be able to explain not only a project’s expected cost and electricity production, but also why specific equipment was selected and whether current federal requirements could affect it. ## The Bigger Picture: Solar Supply Chains Are Becoming a Strategic Issue The FCC’s inverter decision is not happening in isolation. Federal policies are increasingly influencing where energy equipment is manufactured, where components are sourced and which technologies can enter the U.S. market. Cybersecurity requirements, domestic manufacturing incentives, tariffs and federal tax policy are all becoming part of the commercial solar landscape. For businesses considering solar, this means equipment sourcing and regulatory compliance deserve more attention than they may have several years ago. It also makes it increasingly important to evaluate a commercial solar project based on its specific equipment, financial model and long-term performance rather than making an investment decision based on a single regulatory headline. What WattHub Is Watching The FCC’s inverter restrictions are relatively new, and manufacturers, developers and federal agencies will continue working through how the requirements apply to individual products. WattHub is continuing to monitor developments that could affect commercial solar projects, including: • Changes to the FCC Covered List and subsequent guidance • Manufacturer responses and equipment availability • Domestic solar and inverter manufacturing • Federal trade and tariff policies affecting solar equipment • Changes to commercial solar tax incentives For businesses planning commercial solar projects, these developments should be considered as part of equipment selection, project planning and financial modeling. The solar market is changing, but understanding those changes makes it possible to evaluate projects based on current information rather than headlines. ## Sources & Further Reading Federal Communications Commission. “Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau Updates Covered List Entry for Foreign-Produced Power Inverters.” Public Notice DA 26-870, August 20, 2026. The IRA was a big shot in the arm to renewables, and solar, being the most prominent renewable resource, was benefitted with the return of the 30% Federal Investment Tax Credit, additional tax credits adders, flexibility for tax-exempt entities to get cash in lieu of the ITC, and ways to transfer the tax credit for cash. These are all huge benefits to the solar industry; however, the guidance from the IRS and Treasury didn’t come until recently. This means that we’ve waited a year and a half to understand how to use these new benefits under the law, and now that we get to use them, we are staring into the barrel of a shotgun waiting for the new administration to take office. **Fortunately, the solar industry is really good at pivoting.** We have been in business for the past 15 years since we installed our first solar panel at 175 watts. When the government, state, and utilities decide to make changes, which there have been LOTS of over the past decade and a half, the solar industry, being incredibly resilient, figured out a way to pivot to continue the longevity. Fast forward to today, and the solar train is on the move and can’t be stopped. Let’s consider the IRA, which was bipartisan at the time. Now that the Republicans control the House and Senate, I personally don’t believe that the whole IRA will be repealed. Maybe parts of it that are unused; however, the IRA stimulated the solar business, which is the number 1 job growth industry in America. Also, there have been **“huge, billions, and more billions”** of investments by global manufacturers to set up shop in the United States and make solar panels here. So if you consider that most top 10 global solar panel manufacturers and most global inverter companies have already set up shop or are in the process, the IRA is working and working very well. You’d have to be a moron to miss that and repeal the whole damn thing. House Speaker Mike Johnson said it would be impossible to repeal the full IRA, but we may see some trimming of the fat if you want to call it that. **There are a lot of reasons to be optimistic about the future in solar.** Domestic content aligns with Trumps vision to bring back jobs to America and stop buying Asian product. We haven’t seen any talk on the Energy Community adder or Low Income Adder yet either. The low income adder was oversubscribed when it opened its application portal, and Energy Communities is being used as well, so how to repeal these would make a tremendous amount of work for the new Administration. Based on past experience, and Trumps love for real estate, bringing back full depreciation or “property expensing” is a good possibility. Right now in 2025, we’re allowed the 40% bonus depreciation which is phased down from 80, 60 and now 40. I would not be surprised if we get full depreciation back and that is another big benefit that spurred solar transactions when he was in office last. Interest rates have a big effect on solar deployment. Lower interest rates would be a huge catalyst for solar deployment, perhaps even more so than the tax credit adders. If the general business owner population isn’t making healthy, positive net income, then they can’t use the ITC and depreciation right away. We need businesses to make more money with a positive outlook on future business, which makes for the best solar environment. This only happens when interest rates come down from their all time highs. Access to capital will wildly favor our industry, and based on where inflation is currently, **we see a lower interest rate environment ahead.** A robust economy and falling interest rates are key for exponential solar growth, like a shot of horse steroids in the butt of the solar industry. Optimism can be found anywhere you look; it depends on the looking glass you’re looking through to find it. For right now, all the benefits under the IRA are law, so use them. Use every benefit to sell, and if you get an objection of waiting to see what Trump does, bring the future to the present and act as if he’s going to repeal some benefits, and get your clients to act now while they are still available. That is a reality of what “could” happen, so sell like there is no tomorrow and use these awesome benefits to deploy more solar. **Our children’s future depends on it, and we want to leave this world a better place than we got it.** John McDonnell CEO Watthub Renewables **Categories:** Industry Updates, Newsletter --- ### [Tariffs--Solar pricing about to jump](https://watthub.com/tariffs-solar-pricing-about-to-jump/) **Published:** February 7, 2025 **Author:** Evan B **Excerpt:** We’re seeing more tariffs on solar panels for foreign companies get instituted in March of 2025. What does this mean? Well, for one, solar panel pricing is going up. We’re seeing crazy low solar panel pricing currently, so we’ve hit the bottom. Rising panel pricing is something to expect, and with commercial solar, don’t get caught with your pants down; going under contract and engineering and permitting take ~6 months. When you buy the solar panels, they will be more expensive. Forecast this in your projects. When we had tariffs hit solar panels a few years ago, the solar panel pricing was drastically higher. Having a rock-bottom solar panel pricing today is much less of an effect than it was 3-4 years ago. A 50% tariff on solar panels being imported at $.20/watt is still lower than a 30% tariff on solar panels that used to cost $.50/watt. We are in the solar business, and everything is always moving around, especially pricing. Brace for impact on your solar projects and make sure you don’t fumble the football 6 months or a year down the road. Energy Independence & Reliability** - Energy Security: With solar panels, you reduce your reliance on the grid and protect your business from power outages or supply disruptions. - Off-Grid Potential: In remote areas, solar power can offer a reliable energy solution where the grid is not easily accessible. **6. Public Relations & Branding** - Eco-Friendly Image: Solar panels show that your business is committed to sustainability, which can improve your brand’s reputation and attract customers who value green initiatives. - Marketing Opportunities: You can advertise your business as “powered by solar” or promote your sustainability efforts through eco-conscious marketing. **7. Return on Investment (ROI)** - Attractive ROI: Over time, the savings from energy bills and potential incentives often lead to a strong ROI, especially in sunny regions with high electricity rates. - Increased Profitability: By decreasing overhead costs, businesses can potentially increase their profit margins over time. **8. Energy Storage (Battery Systems)** - Store Excess Energy: With energy storage solutions like batteries, businesses can store excess solar energy for use during cloudy days or at night, optimizing energy use and reducing reliance on the grid. **9. Scalability** - Flexible System Size: Solar systems can be tailored to fit the needs of your business. You can start with a small system and expand it over time as your energy needs grow. **10. Support Local Jobs & Economy** - Job Creation: The solar industry creates local jobs, from installation to maintenance, contributing to the local economy. **11. Lock in Low Energy Rates** - Predictable Energy Expenses: Once installed, your solar system can provide predictable energy rates, helping you plan and budget more effectively for long-term energy needs. **12. Government Support for Green Business Practices** - Government Mandates: In some areas, businesses that adopt renewable energy solutions may be eligible for additional government benefits, including contracts, recognition, or reduced regulatory scrutiny. **13. Enhanced Workplace Satisfaction** - Employee Pride: Employees often take pride in working for companies that prioritize sustainability, which can lead to higher morale and retention rates. Going solar may require a significant upfront investment, but the combination of long-term savings, environmental impact, and positive business reputation can make it a smart choice for many companies. We cannot count on the tax credit always being there. We also need to brace for higher prices with domestic content. ![](https://mcusercontent.com/21cfa686ea43b0293b89c9e49/images/cd88705c-c024-9201-c616-2bd788d1223c.jpeg)There are a lot of changes coming our way, and just as we always do, we pivot and make adjustments. Understanding all the complexities of commercial solar and all the little details that could make a project go from profit to loss is what we are in business for. We won’t always have the tax credit, and some parts of me think we’d be better without it. Commercial solar is sold on reducing cash flow and increasing building value. That is what businesses want. They also want ease of transaction. WattHub offers both of these through our 17 years of experience in the commercial solar space. Not only developing and financing, but building small and large systems as well. Let WattHub turnkey your next commercial solar project, and our development team will maximize the savings and thus increase the building value for your customers. That is where the sale is made, not because they like you. ???? **Categories:** Industry Updates, Newsletter --- ### [Commercial solar loans: one size doesn’t fit all.](https://watthub.com/commercial-solar-loans-one-size-doesnt-fit-all/) **Published:** March 4, 2025 **Author:** Evan B **Excerpt:** Not all commercial solar loans are made equal. There are lots of different rates, terms, dealer fees, and no dealer fee loans, along with tax credit payments at 18 months. So many options to go with, and it all comes down to “know your customer.”. If you’re dealing with an A-type personality, you’ll want to pitch a loan that you wouldn’t pitch to an engineer-type personality. Understanding your customers needs and goals for solar is a key factor in which loan you want to present. Changing loan types oftentimes confuses the customer and opens a door for questions about each loan that isn’t necessary. WattHub is onboarded with every active solar lender out there, so our offering is robust, and combined with our world-class utility analytics, we can ensure that your customer is the recipient of solar value. Loan terms from 5 years to 25 years and rates from 9% down to 5%, we have you covered. Very few other EPCs are onboarded with all active lenders and also qualify for advance funding so the project can get built with milestone payments vs. waiting to the end to get paid (most companies cannot do it that way). We offer our healthy company services to make your project a success. Remember, you get one shot to close commercial customers, so partner with the best. Customers can sense when you’re trying to figure it out on the fly! **Categories:** Uncategorized --- ### [PPA’s for small commercial projects](https://watthub.com/ppas-for-small-commercial-projects/) **Published:** March 4, 2025 **Author:** Evan B **Excerpt:** PPA’s for small commercial projects ( < 200 kW) are hard to implement. Bigger makes (most) everything easier in the finance world and small projects often get overlooked. Most PPA companies that raise tax equity and own projects have minimum fees they put in on the project that squeezes the EPC and/or Developer in order to give the customer a PPA rate that is lower than their current energy savings. They need to eat too, but these minimum fees could add up to a huge ppW adder on the project that sometimes breaks the deal. Interest rates have a lot to do with the pricing of tax equity and currently the pricing of PPA’s which are measured broadly by Internal Rate of Return (“IRR”) is also high. As interest rates come down, the PPA pricing does to some degree. WattHub understands the requirements of active PPA companies and even offers small commercial PPA’s through out own tax equity fund. We have helped dozens of industry professionals (well to do accredited investors) get into their own PPA and avoid paying Uncle Sam. This speeds up the process of the PPA if the rep or EPC wants to take part in the transaction. Not all PPA’s cash flow well, based on the energy savings, but WattHub offers the analysis as a service and can turn your project into a long term cash flowing asset while providing huge tax credits and depreciation. Contact us today if you have a project you want to participate in as an investor, or if you need a project funded and want to see if it meets our internal fund requirements! **Categories:** Educational, Newsletter --- ## Pages ### [Home](https://watthub.com/) **Published:** February 7, 2023 **Author:** David Moore --- ### [Commercial Solar Solutions Nationwide](https://watthub.com/commercial-solar-solutions-nationwide/) **Published:** September 24, 2026 **Author:** MaxVelocity --- ### [Gilbert](https://watthub.com/commercial-solar-gilbert-az/) **Published:** September 9, 2026 **Author:** MaxVelocity --- ### [Tempe](https://watthub.com/commercial-solar-tempe-az/) **Published:** September 9, 2026 **Author:** MaxVelocity --- ### [Chandler](https://watthub.com/commercial-solar-chandler-az/) **Published:** September 9, 2026 **Author:** MaxVelocity --- ### [Scottsdale](https://watthub.com/commercial-solar-scottsdale-az/) **Published:** September 9, 2026 **Author:** MaxVelocity --- ### [Mesa](https://watthub.com/commercial-solar-mesa-az/) **Published:** September 9, 2026 **Author:** MaxVelocity --- ### [Tuscon](https://watthub.com/commercial-solar-tucson-az/) **Published:** September 9, 2026 **Author:** MaxVelocity --- ### [Phoenix](https://watthub.com/commercial-solar-phoenix/) **Published:** August 13, 2026 **Author:** MaxVelocity --- ### [My WattHub](https://watthub.com/mywatthub/) **Published:** March 23, 2023 **Author:** David Moore --- ### [Register](https://watthub.com/register/) **Published:** March 25, 2023 **Author:** David Moore **Content:** ### Register New Account [Log in](https://watthub.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwatthub.com%2Fregister%2F) to renew or change an existing membership. Our team of “energy junkies” can help you understand your electric bill, how you are billed, and options of what solar can offset. Energy usage patterns can also be analyzed with interval data and that creates an extremely high degree of energy savings accuracy.
